It really isn’t the worst idea. 🙂
The best businesses have someone in there who’s running on passion, has crazy ideas, pursues a vision and looks at the big picture
In my favorite business system outlined in the book Traction by Gino Wickman, the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS), every business should have BOTH a Visionary AND an Integrator.
The Visionary is the person with the passion. He or she has all the ideas. Inspires the troops. Is on a plane speaking at conferences, visiting key accounts, all of that goodness. He or she generally doesn’t want to be tied down in the day-to-day and is a terrible manager.
But that person needs a counterpart. In EOS, this is the Integrator. That person is responsible for the company’s bottom line. For holding everyone else accountable and making the day-to-day happen.
You need both to run a successful business. Without an Integrator, nothing gets done and priorities shift whenever the Visionary has a new idea.
Without a Visionary, you might get a business that runs well – but there is no jet fuel being poured into it. There’s no soul.
So, absolutely build your business around your passion. Just don’t do alone! Get someone next to you who can get sh*t done and loves doing that.
